Post-CCT Fellow in Mohs & Advanced Dermatological Surgery

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious dermatologist to join our well-established and supportive Mohs and dermatological surgery team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Newcastle.

Applications are invited for a full-time, one-year fellowship post, commencing August 2026, for dermatologists seeking advanced specialist training in Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatological surgery and cutaneous oncology. Applicants may be substantive dermatologists, trainees within six months of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or immediately post-CCT.

Main duties of the job

This fellowship provides comprehensive training across a broad range of dermatological surgical procedures, with a strong emphasis on the management of skin cancer. On completion of the programme, fellows are expected to have developed the skills of a dermatologist with a special interest in cutaneous surgery and cutaneous oncology, including:

  • Mohs micrographic surgery
  • Surgical reconstruction following skin cancer excision
  • Scar revision
  • Dermatological applications of laser technology

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • Up to date training in skin cancer diagnostics and management
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
  • Satisfactory completion of foundation training or equivalent.
  • Able to manage common medical emergencies.
  • Active interest in clinical dermatological surgery and demonstrates potential to benefit from intensive surgical training.
  • Higher level skin surgery experience e.g. experience in Mohs surgery (beyond skin biopsy and curettage)
Maintaining Clinical Competence
  • Can show evidence of attendance at relevant courses/conferences
  • No large unexplained gaps in clinical training
Teaching
  • Can demonstrate regular commitment to teaching (eg students/health care professionals)
  • Has attended a teaching course or attained a module towards a higher teaching qualification.
  • Has presented at a national or international conference.
  • Formal teaching qualification.
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research
  • Experience of audit projects.
  • Experience of recent quality improvement activity.
  • Evidence of involvement in clinical research
  • Has published peer reviewed article
