The post-holder will contribute to the interventional service, including the full range of interventional techniques and provision of Primary PCI on-call cover. They will be allowed to develop other special interests of their choice according to the service needs of the department. The post holder will be expected to work in close collaboration with the existing team of consultant cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and allied specialities.

The post attracts 10 Programmed Activities per week for approximately a 1 in 11 on-call for intervention at Freeman Hospital and 1:16 CCU day cover at RVI Hospital.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

We are advertising for a Substantive Consultant Cardiologist (10 PAs). This is a new post which will be working mainly at the Freeman Hospital Cardiothoracic Unit. The post-holder will have broad general cardiology skills with a special interest in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). They will be allowed to develop other special interests of their choice according to the service needs of the department.

There will be opportunities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development, audit and research within the Division and the Trust. There is the expectation of collaborative working with colleagues, allied specialities and liaison with other disciplines throughout the trust and network.

Clinical:

The post will form part of the consultant PCI on-call rota. PCI sessions will be in the on-call urgent cardiac catheter lab dealing with patients presenting with ACS including STEMI and NSTEMI from around the region. The candidate will also have elective sessions.

To provide expert care for patients admitted to Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals with cardiology conditions and to provide specialist interventional cardiology opinion to colleagues in referring hospitals around the region, as needed.
