Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams which include academics, professionals and members of the public, you will support the Principal Investigator in the delivery of research activity on the “Anti-stigma intervention for health and social care staff in contact with people who use substances: a process evaluation”.

Key responsibilities include supporting the already established research team as they implement, evaluate and then develop an existing “anti-stigma training” intervention for health and social care professionals in and across a number of different practice and local authority areas.

Key activities include engaging with professional and public members, administering a survey, conducting interviews with professionals, leading data analysis and co-production workshops with the extensive support of a highly skilled and experienced group of academic and public partners.

The role will also include delivering presentations to academic and professional partners, as well as collating and writing reports. There will be opportunities to lead the development of outputs such as book chapters and peer‑reviewed papers. This research builds on an established and well‑supported programme of work, with the potential for future opportunities if additional funding is secured.

The work will require you to travel to different sites to co-deliver training with the existing team.

For further detail see the role description .

This is a 12 month full time fixed term role, starting January 2026. Part-time will also be considered.

ABOUT THE TEAM

This Research Project is funded by the Three Schools NIHR prevention Award and the post holder will be located within the School of Communities and Education at Northumbria university.

As a member of staff, you will be part of a highly recognised and well‑established teaching and research school. You will receive day‑to‑day support from the project lead, as well as guidance from a wider team of specialists and academics across a range of disciplines and subject areas.

ABOUT YOU

Applicants should hold a PhD (or working towards one: nearing submission) in a related field or subject area and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge in health and social care issues and concerns.

Excellent communication skills and experience and ability in 121 and group work contexts would be beneficial.

A working knowledge of stigma and ability to articulate its impacts would also be desirable, as would experience of working or researching with professionals in different health and social care contexts.

Candidates would benefit from having prior knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods and data analysis, however, support and training will be provided.

Further information about the requirements of the role is available in the person specification .

If you would like an informal discussion about the role, please contact William McGovern, Associate Professor in Community and Wellbeing.
