Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision

GSL Education are currently recruiting a resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work within an Alternative Provision / PRU setting in Newcastle
. This Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone with experience or a strong interest in supporting pupils with SEMH needs and behaviours that challenge
, particularly those who are unable to access mainstream education.

As a Teaching Assistant
, you will support pupils in a highly tailored learning environment that places a strong emphasis on outdoor learning
, relationship-building, and emotional regulation. The provision supports students who require a more flexible and therapeutic approach to education.

The Role of the Teaching Assistant Will Include:
  • Supporting pupils who are unable to attend mainstream school due to SEMH needs.
  • Working closely with teaching staff to deliver adapted learning activities.
  • Supporting behaviour management using trauma-informed approaches as a Teaching Assistant
    .
  • Engaging pupils in outdoor learning and practical activities.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and life skills development.
  • Providing a high standard of safeguarding and pastoral care as a Teaching Assistant
    .
The Ideal Teaching Assistant Will:
  • Have experience working with SEMH, PRU, or Alternative Provision pupils (desirable).
  • Be calm, patient, and resilient when supporting behaviours that challenge.
  • Enjoy working in active, outdoor, and non-traditional learning environments.
  • Be proactive, caring, and adaptable.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply).
  • Have a fully checkable work history.
