About the Role

Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced and supportive Secondary English & Maths Tutor to provide 1:1 and small-group tuition to secondary-aged students across Newcastle.

The students you will support have been disengaged from education due to factors such as SEND, SEMH, behavioural challenges, and other additional needs. Patience, empathy, and resilience are essential qualities for this role.

The successful tutor will adopt a structured, student-centred approach, tailoring sessions to meet individual learning needs and working collaboratively with families and schools to support academic progress.

Sessions will take place face-to-face, either in a community setting or in the young persons home.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver one-to-one or small-group tuition in Maths and English

Develop and implement personalised lesson plans to address individual learning gaps

Monitor and track student progress

Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to rebuild students confidence

Complete daily attendance records and weekly progress reports

Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you must:

Have previous experience working with young people with SEND (e.g., ADHD, SEMH) and students who have been permanently excluded (experience within a PRU is highly desirable)

Hold the right to work in the UK

Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or be willing to apply for one

Be able to provide references covering the last two years of education/employment
