The Education and Training Department within University Hospitals Dorsetis continuing to developandwe are looking for two experienced educator to join our innovative and dynamicsimulationteam as aSimulation Practitioner.

1x 7 month Fixed Term Contract or Secondment opportunity

As a Simulation Practitioneryouwill work as part of an established and experienced simulation team including simulation practitioners, technician sand fellows.

The objective of this role is to plan, deliver, and support others to deliver, high quality simulation-based education (SBE) and transformative simulation (TfS). SBE has a focus on the learning and development of individuals, and this is commonly driven by curriculum requirements such as foundation doctors or student nurse programs. TfS is using simulation to create a change or improvement, and this will mostly be around the transformation work within the Trust.

duties of the job

The Education and Training Department is a large team providing clinical and non‑clinical education across all three sites of University Hospitals Dorset. The role will be predominately based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site however, cross‑site working will be expected. Facilities include state of the art Simulation Suites, with high‑fidelity patient simulation mannikins and computer technology, and a Simulation Ward incorporating audio visual technology enabling live streaming to other locations.

We also operate lecture theatres, large clinical skills training rooms, seminar rooms and a dynamic conference room. All our facilities are linked through Microsoft Teams and deliver blended learning opportunities to our users. Training is enhanced using a variety of mannikins, anatomical task trainers and mixed reality headsets.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Learning and Assessing (mentorship) qualification or teaching qualification
  • Demonstrable evidence of CPD
  • Healthcare professional with current registration with appropriate governing body eg. NMC, HCPC.
Experience
  • Experience of working collaboratively and effectively within an interprofessional environment
  • Experience of delivering education and training
  • Experience of delivering simulation based education
  • Role model safe practice in the clinical and learning environments
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of education and training in clinical practice
Other requirements specific to the role
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload in an unpredictable environment
  • Ability to work unsupervised, on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Advanced communication skills using a range of methods and ability to adapt these styles effectively in response to varying audiences
  • Able to stand and teach in front of large groups
  • Able to supervise staff effectively offering constructive and achievable learning outcomes
  • Able to deal appropriately and maturely with difficult situations and ability to challenge and report poor practice
