Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Ready to be the calm in the corner, the storyteller on the carpet, and the reassuring smile at the classroom door?

We’re working with a well‑regarded primary school in the heart of Fenham, who are looking for an experienced Level 3 Early Years Teaching Assistant to join their close‑knit EYFS team.

This is a school where children are known by name, families are part of the community, and early years really matters.

About the School

This school is a warm, community‑driven primary school with a strong sense of belonging. Rooted in clear values and high expectations, the school balances nurturing care with purposeful learning from the very start.

Their Early Years provision is calm, engaging, and thoughtfully structured. You’ll find:

  • A well‑resourced indoor and outdoor learning environment
  • A team that plans together and supports each other
  • Leadership that’s visible, approachable, and genuinely invested in staff wellbeing
  • A clear focus on developing the whole child, emotionally, socially, and academically

This isn’t a setting where you’re left to “just get on with it”. It’s collaborative, reflective, and child‑centred.

About the Role

You’ll be part of a supportive EYFS team, working across Nursery and Reception. Your days will be a mix of structured play, guided activities, and those magic in‑the‑moment learning opportunities that Early Years does best.

You’ll:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering the EYFS curriculum through purposeful play and exploration
  • Help plan and set up activities that promote communication, language, physical development, and early literacy and numeracy
  • Create calm, engaging spaces where children feel safe to take risks and try new things
  • Build strong, positive relationships with children and their families
  • Use observations to track progress against EYFS learning goals
  • Follow safeguarding, hygiene, and health and safety procedures with confidence and care

If you understand that routine brings security, and play builds brains, you’ll fit right in.

About You
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant or Early Years Educator qualification
  • Solid understanding of the EYFS framework and child development milestones
  • Experience supporting children aged 3–5 in a school or nursery setting
  • Calm, patient, and organised, even when it’s a little bit loud
  • Confident supporting toileting, transitions, and day‑to‑day classroom routines
  • A team player who communicates clearly and warmly

You’re the kind of person who spots the child hanging back and gently brings them in. The one who knows that a good day in Reception starts with a consistent morning routine and ends with muddy wellies and big smiles.

Why You’ll Love It Here
  • A welcoming, community‑focused school
  • Supportive leadership and collaborative colleagues
  • A well‑structured Early Years environment
  • The chance to make a real impact at the very start of a child’s school journey

And of course, when you work with Protocol Education, you’ll also get:

  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella companies
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
  • Personalised support from a dedicated consultant
  • Opportunities in mainstream, SEND, and alternate settings
  • Streamlined registration and local bookings
