English Subject Lead – SEMH School – Newcastle
Full‑time position, Monday to Friday, QTS required.
We are currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate English Subject Lead to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School in Newcastle on a full‑time basis.
This rewarding opportunity is ideal for a dedicated English specialist committed to supporting young people with SEMH and barriers to learning. The successful candidate will lead the English curriculum, inspire students to achieve their potential, and play a key role in improving outcomes across the school.
Responsibilities- Lead the planning, delivery, and development of the English curriculum.
- Teach engaging and differentiated English lessons to students with SEMH needs.
- Monitor and track student progress, attainment, and engagement.
- Support and develop colleagues through coaching and best‑practice sharing.
- Contribute to curriculum development and whole‑school improvement initiatives.
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Promote high expectations for behaviour, achievement, and personal development.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Experience teaching English within a UK secondary school setting.
- Previous leadership, curriculum responsibility, or subject‑lead experience is desirable.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building skills.
- A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to teaching.
- Experience working with SEMH, SEND, or vulnerable learners is advantageous.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
