We are currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate English Subject Lead to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School in Newcastle on a full-time basis. This rewarding opportunity is ideal for a dedicated English specialist who is committed to supporting young people with SEMH and barriers to learning. The successful candidate will lead the English curriculum, inspire students to achieve their potential, and play a key role in improving outcomes across the school.

Role
  • Lead the planning, delivery, and development of the English curriculum.
  • Teach engaging and differentiated English lessons to students with SEMH needs.
  • Monitor and track student progress, attainment, and engagement.
  • Support and develop colleagues through coaching and sharing best practice.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and whole‑school improvement initiatives.
  • Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Promote high expectations for behaviour, achievement, and personal development.
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Experience teaching English within a UK secondary school setting.
  • Previous leadership, curriculum responsibility, or subject lead experience is desirable.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building skills.
  • A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to teaching.
  • Experience working with SEMH, SEND, or vulnerable learners is advantageous.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
