GP Lecturer (Year 3 Teaching Content) – (0.20 FTE, 3 Year Fixed Term)

The RoleThe core function of the GP Lecturer (Year 3 Teaching Content) is to deliver, coordinate and develop materials for the year 3 GP component of the MBBS curriculum. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and vibrant group of GP educationalists at Newcastle University.
Key Accountabilities- Accountable to the Board of Medical Studies through the Head of GP Teaching and the Director of Medical Studies to manage the teaching delivery of the MBBS GP year 3 curriculum.
- Lead on the delivery, coordination and development of teaching materials for both the online sessions and the face‑to‑face weekly teaching sessions.
- Recruit, train and supervise GPs to teach the year 3 online sessions.
- Develop the year 3 teaching materials in coordination with the GP speciality leads under the guidance of the year 3 GP lead.
- Train and supervise the year 3 GP teachers to deliver the teaching content.
- Develop and curate self‑directed online learning materials for year 3 students, supporting revision and learning of identified self‑study topics.
- Develop innovative inter‑professional learning opportunities for year 3 medical students (e.g. lead a project to develop interpreter‑mediated consultation videos).
- Contribute to year 3 assessment through question writing and participation in standard setting meetings.
- Be accountable to the Year 3 GP lead and to relevant committees, such as regional GPL meetings.
- Able to contribute to teaching and assessment and other curriculum processes beyond Year 3 in consultation with the Head of GP Teaching.
- Demonstrate a commitment to developing relevant knowledge and skills in teaching and curriculum management.
- Engage in subject, professional and pedagogic research and scholarship to enhance teaching and learning, securing appropriate funding when necessary.
- Good communicator, both one‑to‑one and in small groups.

- Enthusiasm for the task in hand.
- Holds an MBBS degree or equivalent.
- Fully qualified (MRCGP) and currently practising GP with teaching experience.
- Knowledge of the Year 3 MBBS curriculum.
- Experience of teaching MBBS students.
- Interest in developing an academic career.
- Possesses a further teaching qualification, such as a Masters in Medical Education, a Trainer’s qualification, or a further degree.
- Knowledge of the Year 3 online tutorials.
