Salary and Benefits
£32,080 to £33,002 per annum, progressing to £34,610 per annum for the fixed‑term role. The position offers a generous holiday package, pension schemes and health and well‑being initiatives.
RoleThe Student Success Unit is responsible for developing and supporting an outstanding student experience. Within this unit the Careers Service supports all students and recent graduates toward a positive graduate outcome. As an Information and Insights Adviser you will work with undergraduate and postgraduate students and recent graduates to provide 1:1 career advice, group workshops and research‑based information to help them progress into the job market, further study or self‑employment.
KeyAccountabilities
- Provide information services to current students and recent graduates via a range of adaptable methods, including in‑person and online 1:1 interactions, group presentations, workshops, e‑mail enquiries and web‑based resources.
- Research and deliver insightful information to support career exploration, including self‑employment or business start‑up, with particular focus on global resources and tailored support for international students.
- In liaison with your manager and team, identify, support and lead agreed projects that develop and improve our offer to students.
Job Description
- Work with employers to understand the labour market and promote the opportunities offered to support their recruitment needs.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Student Success to ensure provision design and delivery consider the needs of designated student groups, such as those with additional needs, international students, Early Career Researchers and Degree Apprentices.
- Maintain awareness of the student and graduate recruitment process, CVs, application processes and social media developments that offer alternative routes to employment and work experience.
- Develop and regularly review the Careers Service web content, ensuring it is accessible, current and informed by research and employer insights.
- Recruit, supervise and mentor assistants/student workers, offering support, feedback and training.
- Build and maintain relationships with service providers, business networks, funding bodies, businesses, organisations and other appropriate networks in line with Careers Service and University strategies, gathering information and insights to share with students and recent graduates.
- Monitor, document and evaluate interactions with students, graduates and employers.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested in the delivery of the Careers Service’s strategic objectives, including occasional out‑of‑hours or evening work.
- Experience of providing 1:1 information and advice in a paid or voluntary setting.
- Up‑to‑date understanding of graduate employability and the graduate recruitment process.
- Good understanding of the higher‑education sector, its business, latest developments and issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG).
- Excellent research skills.
- Confidence in using a range of technology platforms to deliver information and services.
- Ability to write engaging content that adheres to good practice for a range of resources and platforms.
- Ability to devise and deliver interactive sessions for students, graduates and Careers Service staff.
- Ability to network and build effective working relationships.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a complex workload and meet tight deadlines.
- Attention to detail and ability to edit and effectively present information.
- Excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in people and their development.
- Gather a broad range of relevant information from internal and external sources and make it widely available.
- Use information to gain a competitive advantage for students and graduates.
- Communicate clearly, concisely and accurately, tailoring the approach accordingly and encouraging two‑way communication.
