Job Title: Pastoral Support Officer
Location: Newcastle
Pay: £95-£115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full‑time/ Part‑time, Day‑to‑day/ Long‑term
GSL Education are recruiting a Pastoral Support Officer to join progressive educational settings in Newcastle. This role is suited to a compassionate and resilient individual who can provide guidance, promote student wellbeing, and work closely with staff to create a positive and supportive school environment.
The Pastoral Support Officer will play an important part in improving student engagement, attendance, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.
Responsibilities- Build positive relationships with students to encourage confidence and resilience
- Support pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional or social challenges
- Monitor attendance, wellbeing and engagement, raising concerns where appropriate
- Work alongside teachers, families and external professionals to provide effective student support
- Help implement pastoral programmes and intervention strategies that promote positive outcomes
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, meetings and support plans
- Previous experience in pastoral care, mentoring, youth work or a similar support role is desirable
- Good understanding of behaviour management and safeguarding procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and colleagues
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage confidential information appropriately
- Calm, empathetic and solution‑focused approach to supporting young people
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection is required. Successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service.
