We are seeking a committed Secondary School Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Alternative Provision in Newcastle on a full-time, permanent basis from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to support young people who may have faced barriers to learning and help them achieve positive educational and personal outcomes.
Working as part of a highly supportive team, you will play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive and engaging environment where students can thrive.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students both in and out of the classroom. You will help learners engage with their education, develop confidence and overcome challenges that may impact their learning.
Key Responsibilities- Provide classroom support across a range of subjects
- Build positive relationships with students and act as a positive role model
- Support students with social, emotional and behavioural needs
- Deliver targeted interventions and small group support
- Promote engagement, attendance and positive behaviour
- Assist with the preparation of learning resources and classroom activities
- Work collaboratively with teaching, pastoral and safeguarding teams
- Support students to achieve both academic and personal development goals
- Has experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally within a school, alternative provision or youth setting
- Is patient, adaptable and resilient
- Has excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
- Is passionate about supporting young people to succeed
- Can remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenges
- Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
- A Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Relevant experience working with young people will be highly valued.
