The Role

Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint 2 Lecturers in Law (Teaching & Research; Grade

F) to join our forward thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School that seeks to embed its values in all that it does:

We are looking for passionate researchers and educators. You should have an emerging national/international research profile and a clear research trajectory. Your research should engage with socially relevant and important questions that address current and future problems. Potential for engaging with the research funding landscape and/or potential for engagement with external stakeholders and partnerships to deliver real world impact and benefit through your research is also desirable.

In terms of teaching, you must be able to contribute to teaching across one or more of the following foundational legal knowledge subjects
- Contract Law, Land Law, Equity, Tort Law or UK & EU. Alternatively, you should be able to contribute to the delivery of Family Law, the Law of Evidence or be able to contribute to our planned programme development
- Law with Criminology LLB (specifically with experience of teaching criminology/criminal justice focused modules). Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests align with the required area of teaching expertise.

Key Accountabilities Teaching & Learning
  • To provide high quality research led teaching activity
  • To supervise dissertation students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of academic adviser
  • Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with university standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
  • Contribute to curriculum and programme development as required
Research
  • Conduct research that demonstrates (or demonstrates the potential for) international standards of excellence in terms of originality, significance and rigour (* & 4*)
  • Contribute to the research community of Newcastle Law School including where relevant engaging with research groups within the school and/or Newcastle University Centres of Research Excellence (NUCoREs)
  • Pursue external funding commensurate with experience
  • Potential to demonstrate impact by developing research‑based solutions to real‑world problems and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work
  • Supervise PGR (postgraduate research) students (commensurate with experience)
Other
  • Operate as an active and present citizen in the Newcastle Law School community
  • Have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and an understanding of how individual behaviour can contribute to a positive research and education culture
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support your area of teaching, research, engagement and/or student experience
  • Take responsibility for a defined citizenship role
