We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist SEND school in Newcastle on a full-time basis.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a school with a highly therapeutic curriculum
, where every aspect of learning is designed to support pupils' emotional wellbeing, communication, independence, and personal development alongside their academic progress.

The school boasts outstanding facilities
, including dedicated sensory rooms
, calm spaces, and specialist learning environments that help pupils feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn. Pupils also benefit from regular access to the school's Forest School
, where outdoor learning encourages confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a connection with nature. For older students, the curriculum places a strong emphasis on life skills
, preparing them for adulthood through practical learning such as independent travel, community access, communication, and everyday living skills.

Working Hours
  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:30am - 3:30pm

This is a long-term opportunity
, with the role envisioned to become permanent following a successful agreed period within the school
, offering excellent career stability and progression.

The Role

Working within this specialist SEND setting, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, and SEMH
    .
  • Work closely with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Support the school's therapeutic approach by creating a calm, nurturing, and inclusive environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
  • Use positive behaviour strategies to promote emotional regulation, engagement, and independence, helping pupils achieve their individual goals.
  • Encourage pupils to develop essential social, communication, and life skills both inside and outside the classroom.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Have previous experience working or volunteering with children or vulnerable adults or have graduated within the last three years with a minimum 2:2 degree
    .
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the DBS Update Service
, or be willing to apply for one immediately.
  • Be patient, resilient, compassionate, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
  • Be committed to supporting pupils within a therapeutic SEND environment and eager to make a positive impact on their educational journey.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative school community that truly puts pupils at the heart of everything they do. With exceptional facilities, a therapeutic ethos, and a curriculum that equips young people with the skills they need for life beyond education, you'll play a key role in helping every child reach their full potential.
