Maths Tutor - Help Young People Build Confidence Through Learning
GSL Education Newcastle Branch are seeking a dedicated Maths Tutor to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision in Newcastle upon Tyne (NE15) from this September. This full-time opportunity is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting students who require an alternative approach to education, helping them build confidence, resilience, and essential numeracy skills.
Whether you are a qualified teacher or an experienced tutor, this role offers the opportunity to work with young people who benefit from personalised learning and consistent support in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Mathematics Tutor:- Deliver engaging and personalised Maths lessons to students with SEMH needs.
- Adapt teaching strategies to suit a range of learning abilities and emotional needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and progress.
- Support students in developing mathematical understanding, problem-solving skills, and functional numeracy.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student can succeed.
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is preferred but not essential.
- Experience teaching or tutoring Maths at secondary level.
- Experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
- An enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
