We’re currently recruiting for a Behaviour Mentor to join a secondary school in Gateshead on a long-term basis
, starting in September
.

This role offers the opportunity to progress to a permanent position for the right candidate.

You’ll be joining a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing school that places a strong focus on wellbeing, positive behaviour, and helping every student reach their full potential
. The school is looking for someone who can build strong relationships with young people, promote positive behaviour, and support students in overcoming barriers to learning.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Behaviour Mentors, Learning Support Assistants, Youth Workers, Sports Coaches, Teaching Assistants, or graduates looking to gain valuable experience before progressing into careers in Teaching, Educational Psychology, Youth Justice, Social Work, or Mental Health
.

• Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to improve confidence, resilience, and engagement in learning.
• Supporting students with behavioural, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
• Implementing behaviour support plans and using positive behaviour management strategies.
• Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, social skills, and coping strategies.
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs, and school leaders to provide consistent support.
• Encouraging attendance, participation, and positive attitudes towards education.
• Promoting a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment where every student feels supported.
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.

• Experience working with children or young people in a school, youth work, coaching, residential care, or support setting.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people with behavioural and emotional needs.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Calm, patient, resilient, and able to remain positive in challenging situations.
• Strong understanding of behaviour management and restorative approaches.
• Psychology, Criminology, Sports, Education, or Youth Work graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to provide two recent references.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
