Prospero Teaching is working in partnership with a well-established Alternative Provision in Newcastle to recruit an enthusiastic and resilient Food Technology Teacher for a full-time position starting in September 2026 until July 2027
.

This specialist setting supports young people aged 11–18 who have been permanently excluded or are unable to access mainstream education. Many pupils have SEMH needs
, additional barriers to learning, and may present with challenging behaviour.

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about making a lasting difference to the lives of vulnerable young people. The successful candidate will be committed to building positive relationships, raising aspirations, and helping pupils re-engage with education through practical and engaging Food Technology lessons.

Daily rate: Between £130-220 per day DOE

Duration: September 2026 – July 2027

The Role

• Deliver engaging Food Technology lessons to students aged 11–18.
• Adapt teaching to meet the individual learning, emotional and behavioural needs of pupils.
• Build strong, trusting relationships that encourage positive engagement and personal development.
• Use creative and practical teaching strategies to motivate students who may have previously disengaged from education.
• Promote positive behaviour through consistent expectations, restorative approaches and effective classroom management.
• Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback to support academic and personal growth.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety within the Food Technology classroom.
• Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, behaviour mentors, teaching assistants and external professionals.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching Food Technology within a secondary school or alternative provision setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or additional barriers to learning is highly desirable.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour management.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
