- Lead the clinical ethics strand throughout the five-year medical programme
- Apply current evidence and innovative learning and teaching strategies to build a coherent spiral strand
- Deliver clinical ethics teaching and support other staff teaching in Years 1 and 2
- Partner with Year Leads, Course Directors, Local Education Provider leads and NUMed to deliver agreed learning outcomes
- Integrate clinical ethics training with the wider MBBS curriculum
- Coordinate with Years 1–5 Year Leads and Years 3–5 Course Directors
- Act as a point of reference for teachers and, where appropriate, students
- Contribute to assessment processes for the strand and the wider programme
- Coordinate and quality-monitor clinical ethics learning materials and virtual learning environment content
- Review shared learning materials and curriculum documentation within required timelines
- Participate in curriculum development and quality monitoring/management meetings
- Engage with regional medical school leads and Course Directors to ensure horizontal and vertical integration
- Work with the Head of Staff Development to ensure clinical teachers are appropriately trained
- Attend on-campus meetings as a visible presence
- Substantive senior clinical role with a minimum of four clinical sessions
- Knowledge of the MBBS curriculum and its structure
- Knowledge of relevant subject areas delivered in Years 1–5 of the MBBS curriculum
- Understanding of curriculum development and assessment
- Successful leadership experience
- Knowledge and experience of small-group teaching
- Experience developing Interprofessional Education
- At least two years’ teaching/assessment experience on the MBBS programme
- Ability to work collaboratively across organisations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage change
- Must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or GP Register
- Desirable: recognition of teaching or leadership through HEA, AoMEd, FMLM or equivalent membership/fellowship
- Desirable: recognised teaching qualification;
Course Directors without one will be expected to work towards it
Demonstrates expertise in clinical ethics education and curriculum development within the MBBS framework, with a strong focus on collaborative teaching and assessment processes. Proven ability to lead and innovate in medical education while ensuring quality and integration across multiple years of the programme.
