Secondary English Teacher - Alternative Provision | Newcastle

Prospero Teaching are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Newcastle that is seeking a dedicated Secondary English Teacher to join their team from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with students who require additional support due to SEMH needs, challenging behaviours, and barriers to mainstream education, helping them re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role:

Deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
Support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours.
Create a positive, nurturing, and structured learning environment that encourages progress and engagement.
Adapt lesson delivery to meet the individual needs and abilities of learners.
Assess, monitor, and record student progress and attainment.
Build strong, positive relationships with students to support both academic achievement and personal development.
Promote positive behaviour strategies and support students in developing confidence, resilience, and independence.
Work collaboratively with support staff, parents, and external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for students.

Pay:
Up to £210 per day (dependent on experience)

Hours:

8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

Contract:

Full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent

Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
A recognised PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
Previous experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
Experience working in an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEMH setting, or with students displaying challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
Strong behaviour management and classroom management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to engage and inspire students who may have become disengaged from education.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Right to work in the UK.
Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to process a new application.
Professional references covering the last two years.
