OverviewLead Substations Plant Engineer (m / f / d) – join our Transmission and Distribution Department. We seek an experienced high voltage engineer to push the boundaries of the profession in an open, collaborative, empowering culture.
Your new roleThe principal function is to lead and oversee electrical design activities within the team as directed by the Head of T&D, assist in developing the group’s capabilities in HV/EHV engineering and mentor junior members. The role includes client, contractor and designer liaison, site visits to non‑UK offices during design and delivery, and responsibility for Work Package Design Management reporting to satisfy the company’s design management requirements.
Yourkey responsibilities will be
- Lead design of HV and EHV substations in compliance with BS IEC and customer‑specified standards.
- Coordinate substation and OH/cable design from concept to detailed design as per client requirements.
- Multidisciplinary design management and client management.
- Liaison with other members of the T&D power systems team and client engineers.
- Technical management of junior engineers and CAD draught professionals.
- Ensure compliant and coordinated primary engineering design on own and other team projects, attend technical meetings with the client.
- Development and training of junior engineers.
- HNC/HND/degree qualified in Electrical Engineering with experience in the UK electricity transmission and distribution industry, ideally NG authorised.
- Membership of the IET Chartered Status or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- Experience authorised with major UK utilities such as NG or DNO companies and a proficient understanding of electricity industry regulatory standards and policy application.
- Strong electrical knowledge and experience in equipment design specification layout and detailed engineering of extra and high voltage substations electrical equipment and product range.
- Good understanding of transformer protection relays, control principles and construction disciplines and the application of current ENA, BS and IEC electrotechnical engineering standards.
- Multi‑disciplinary design management experience.
- Willingness to work in a multi‑disciplinary, multi‑locational team in collaboration with clients.
