Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Jackson Hogg are proud to be exclusively supporting a specialist engineering business in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area with a Quality & Welding Engineer position.
The Quality & Welding Engineer is responsible for providing specialist technical assurance of welding, fabrication, and associated inspection activities across the businesses supply chain, assets, and projects.
The role acts as the technical authority for weld quality, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contractual requirements, while also supporting the wider Quality function through management system development, procedure updates, and continual improvement when not deployed on project-specific welding scopes.
Quality & Welding Engineer Responsibilities
* Review, technically assess, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR/WPQR), and Welder Qualification Records in accordance with applicable standards (e.g. ISO 15614, ISO 9606, ASME IX where applicable).
* Verify welding documentation complies with contractual, regulatory, and client requirements.
* Provide welding quality input during tender, contract review, and project handover phases.
* Support definition of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) related to welding and fabrication.
* Conduct supplier and fabricator audits, assessments, and technical reviews focused on welding capability and quality systems.
* Verify supplier compliance with welding, fabrication, and inspection requirements (including ISO 3834 where applicable).
* Provide on-site welding surveillance and inspection at supplier facilities and during project mobilisation.
* Support procurement and engineering teams in evaluating welding capability during supplier selection.
* Review and assess NDT procedures, techniques, and reports in line with project requirements and relevant standards.
* Verify that NDT activities are conducted by qualified and certified personnel in accordance with ISO 9712 or equivalent schemes.
* Review acceptance criteria, repair procedures, and defect assessments in liaison with Engineering where required.
* Interface with third-party inspection bodies and NDT contractors.
