Engineering Manager - Building & Civil Engineering

As an Engineering Manager (Building & Civil Engineering) at Siemens Energy, you will lead a dedicated team within the Transmission Substation and FACTS business. Your day will involve managing resources and budgets, driving the development of technical standards, and ensuring compliance with regional laws and UK regulations.

You’ll oversee design validation, liaise with external design organisations, and ensure project key performance indicators are met. Additionally, you’ll attend project risk review meetings and coordinate with other design teams to promote best practices and communication.

Impact
  • Maximize the value of engineering hours by instilling a “right first time” culture within the department through mentoring, training, and optimised processes.
  • Ensure design validation for all building and civil engineering solutions, focusing on suitability, contractual, and legislative compliance.
  • Promote consistency in engineering solutions across projects and facilitate best practice sharing with other teams.
  • Implement and monitor project key performance indicators to ensure delivery aligns with time, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Liaise with external design organisations to ensure technical compliance and manage design risks in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Drive the development and implementation of technical standards and procedures, ensuring Siemens Energy remains a leader in civil engineering innovation.
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in the Civil Engineering, Construction, or Infrastructure sectors, with over 10 years in managerial roles, including line and resource management.
  • In-depth knowledge of building and civil engineering standards, as well as familiarity with British and European standards and codes of practice.
  • Ability to obtain technical authority to approve internal and external design documents, such as SR188 CDAE.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, constructability issues, and professional services contracts, including NEC PSC and ACE.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical and commercial issues effectively.
  • Proactive attitude and a commitment to fostering a capable and proficient workforce.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master’s degree and Chartered Engineer status with ICE, IStruct

    E, or equivalent desirable.
  • High standard of IT literacy, particularly with MS Office 365 solutions and document control systems, to support efficient project management and coordination.
