Product Development Test Technician
As a Product Development Test Technician, you will play a key role in supporting engineering testing activities under the direct supervision of the Engineering Test Manager and indirect guidance of test engineers. You will contribute to the execution of the technology strategic plan for product qualification using conventional and high-pressure testing techniques.
Responsibilities- Creating, reading, and validating engineering drawings
- Executing test plans, FMEAs, COIs, and verbal instructions while collaborating closely with engineers and project teams
- Liaising with internal teams, external clients, and independent verification authorities (IVAs)
- Operating tooling, power tools, cranes, and forklift equipment safely
- Driving improvements through lean methodologies, Kaizen initiatives, and innovative ideas
- Leading assigned testing activities with a strong focus on safety and efficiency
- Performing fault-finding on test rigs, mechanical, and electrical systems
- Diagnosing and resolving issues in test samples
- Working with DAQ hardware and software, ideally using National Instruments, Flex Logger, or Yokogawa systems
- Traveling within the UK and globally as required
- Supporting Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards aligned with Baker Hughes safety culture
- Owning and reviewing testing procedures on an annual basis
- Carrying out additional tasks as directed by the Engineering Test Manager
- Be a time-served engineering technician
- Hold a minimum of HNC/HND in a relevant discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
- Be PC literate with a strong understanding of data acquisition systems
- Have experience within the oil and gas industry
- Demonstrate knowledge of data recording systems (experience with National Instruments is advantageous)
- Bring experience in high-pressure systems testing
- Have exposure to torque and tensioning equipment
- Possess electrical instrumentation knowledge
- Have flexible pipe or pipe completion experience (advantageous)
- Demonstrate welding experience (advantageous)
- Be comfortable working independently and within a team environment
- Show strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- Working at height when required
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to high-pressure systems and industrial testing environments
- Flexible travel may be required with reasonable notice to support business needs
