Transport Planner

Location:

North East England (Hybrid)

Rate: GBP
30 - GBP
40 per hour (depending on experience)

Contract:

Initial 6 months

A local authority in the North East is seeking an Interim Transport Planner to support their Transport Planning team during a period of increased workload. This is an excellent opportunity for someone from a consultancy background to move into the public sector environment and play a key role in shaping development proposals across the region.

Responsibilities
  • Assess planning applications from a highways and transportation perspective, review developer submissions and provide technical advice to planning colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Manage a caseload of planning applications and provide highways and transport recommendations.
  • Review Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans submitted by developers.
  • Assess access arrangements, visibility splays, parking provision and highway impacts.
  • Support pre‑application discussions and agree on transport assessment requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports and committee information for planning decisions.
  • Identify opportunities for developer contributions through Section 106 agreements.
  • Undertake site visits where required across the local authority area.
Qualifications
  • Experience working within Transport Planning, ideally in a consultancy environment.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing Transport Assessments and Transport Statements.
  • Good understanding of development planning and highways considerations.
  • Strong report writing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years' relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
