Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer
Permanent role with the Consulting Structures team in Newcastle.
LocationNewcastle, United Kingdom. Our new office at St James’s Place offers a modern, flexible workspace for collaboration and innovation.
RoleAs a Senior Structural Engineer, you will support the Practice Lead on a variety of bridges and civil structure schemes, take ownership of projects, mentor engineers and technicians, and lead multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities- Lead and produce technically sound engineering solutions.
- Take ownership of bridges and civil structure projects from quotation to handover.
- Conduct structural assessments, principal inspections, and special inspections.
- Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation meeting quality, cost, and programme criteria.
- Oversee work of junior staff, ensuring delivery and professional development.
- Liaise with client and supplier representatives at a peer level, attend progress meetings, and respond to queries.
- Manage a small, locally based single discipline technical team.
- Contribute to bid preparation and business development.
- Drive effective health and safety practices.
- Experience and expertise in bridges and/or civil structures, in an engineer role or equivalent.
- Sound understanding of structural engineering principles.
- Ability to produce or oversee technically sound solutions, complying with technical standards and client requirements.
- Ownership of preparation and checking of deliverables.
- Knowledge of relevant software such as Midas, LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
- Experience in managing health and safety risks.
- Collaborative, proactive problem‑solving within multidisciplinary teams.
- Incorporated/Chartered status or equivalent professional licence.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant subject or equivalent further learning.
