The OpportunityJoin our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in either our Newcastle or Redditch office, where you will be part of a market-leading Waste & Generation team within Energy & Resources.
As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, you will balance technical learning with practical project delivery across varied and innovative energy sectors. You will sit within our Waste & Generation team, which comprises 20 engineers—including mechanical specialists. You will also collaborate closely with wider Stantec teams across our Newcastle and Redditch offices, as part of our multidisciplinary environment. Project scope and complexity ranges from quick cost analyses and initial feasibility studies through to full detailed design and commissioning support.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking outline and detailed mechanical design with a strong focus on quality control and self-checking.
- Conducting technical feasibility and cost studies to help clients decarbonise existing operations and meet net-zero agendas.
- Coordinating and integrating mechanical designs with other engineering and digital functions.
- Solving technical and commercial challenges on varied engineering projects.
- Organising and prioritising project deliverables while maintaining clear communication across teams.
- Collaborating effectively with internal multidisciplinary teams, sub-consultants, and external clients.
We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The applicable professional qualification for this role is Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) .
Your ImpactIn this role, you will be directly involved in solving real-world challenges surrounding energy generation, decarbonisation, and net-zero transitions across the UK. Supporting projects across Energy-from-Waste, anaerobic digestion, district heating, CCUS, hydrogen, and conventional generation, your mechanical calculations and design contributions will directly enable cleaner infrastructure. Working alongside senior engineers, your work will help clients decarbonise their operations and deliver sustainable engineering solutions for future generations.
