Commissioning Manager

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

What you'll be doing
Have a thorough understanding of the requirements for HV equipment testing and commissioning including detailed stage by sage commissioning requirements and all associated safety requirements and implications.

To be able to accurately tender total commissioning costs for all commissioning elements including external provision of commissioning services and testing.

Confirm the competency and authorisations of all commissioning service providers and contracted Commissioning Engineers and Commissioning Technicians.

Review commissioning division of responsibilities where split and ensure commissioning / testing reporting streams are maintained.

Provide overall programme by hours-based costing and support the technical commissioning requirements into estimates and tender schedules.

Review any commissioning estimates and assist with site visits and clarification of commissioning requirements as required.

Attend the project handover meetings as required to aid commissioning requirements and clarification with Design /Operations staff.

Train / assess staff knowledge and competencies (internal and external) in all areas of substation commissioning requirements from testing through to initial stage and final stage commissioning handover.

Assist in training new and current commissioning engineers as required and as the projects demand (including new commissioning methods, new technologies etc.) site commissioning procedures and commissioning quality requirements.

Ensure all site commissioning procedures are being adhered to, to the correct quality and safety standards as per the business and client requirements.

Arrange and provide updated commissioning information and schedules as required.

Ensure productivity and commissioning reporting is established into the Project Manager, with input to the associated commissioning costs and spend profile.

Ensure Commissioning safety, QA standards and hold points are consistent for all projects undertaking commissioning. Stress the importance of subcontractor testing/commissioning sign off process for the scope of works being undertaken (minimum signature, date and brief description of the work completed before accepting completion).Attend commissioning panel meetings.

Develop the project Commissioning outline and detailed programme to determine the tendering costs. Check the actual project commissioning costs, % complete, progress to date planned v actual etc. and liaise with the Operational Site managers to aid their understanding of costs to complete. Also, feedback/escalate to the Project Manager if required.

Preparation of Stage by Stage and Emergency Return To Service plans.

Attend site for the commissioning project meetings together with the associated testing and Commissioning phases. Help improve project testing and commissioning delivery, productivity progress and performance and drive innovation.

Aid the forecast to complete testing / commissioning costs based on spend to date and remaining project commissioning programme.
Who we're looking for
Essential Relevant substation operational experience with previous Commissioning Authorisations Evidence and understanding of National Grids current commissioning procedures.

Demonstratableknowledge of National Grid Substation Commissioning requirementsHNC minimal qualification.

Experience of managing a remote technical team (direct reports and sub-contractors)
Understanding of Industry Quality Documentation requirements.
