We are looking for experienced tax professionals to join our Customer Compliance Group (CCG) to work on a range of direct tax disciplines.

About the RoleAs a Direct Tax Specialist, you will work on highly sophisticated and sensitive tax affairs across a range of customer sectors, conducting investigations and providing expert advice to colleagues and stakeholders.
To be successful you must possess substantial and demonstrable knowledge of Direct Tax compliance, either in Income Tax or Corporation Tax.
Responsibilities N&TC – National & Technical Compliance- Focus on direct tax risk and tackle tax evasion and non‑compliance in complex cases involving small businesses and individuals.
- Conduct investigations, analyse taxpayer records and identify evidence of non‑compliance.
- Address irregularities with taxpayers in line with legislation and provide education.
- Act as an escalation point for technical queries from junior caseworkers.
- Work within teams covering multiple tax regimes to ensure all risks are tested.
- Perform both desk‑based and face‑to‑face investigations at HMRC offices or taxpayer premises.
- Provide technical and specialist support across projects, delivering a streamlined approach to compliance work.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across HMRC to find workable solutions to technical, process and policy issues.
- Adapt to business priorities and support caseworkers in a fast‑moving environment.
- Identify technical risks that impact the wider business and deliver mitigating actions.
- Analyse data sources to generate robust recommendations and build individual capability.
- Extensive knowledge of Direct Tax compliance principles and regulations.
- Recent experience tackling complex Direct Tax issues.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Team collaboration and relationship building.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
You MUST hold one or more of the following:
- Chartered Tax Adviser – CIOT
- Membership of an accredited Accountancy body (ICC, ICAS, ICAI, ACCA)
- Post‑graduate full legal qualification in taxation.
- For existing HMRC employees: TSP or predecessor qualification (TPDP, IDP, ITS2, CPT FT2) and completion of the appropriate course for G7 level.
