Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

The Finance Officer will play a vital role in supporting the financial management of the College, working in conjunction with external providers and the Bursar's office. This role is full-time, encompassing 37 hours each week and operates under a permanent contract. The successful candidate will assist the College Director in the execution of both strategic and operational plans, contributing to key tasks such as maintaining the sales ledger, preparing annual financial statements, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.

Furthermore, the Finance Officer will liaise with external auditors and provide oversight in managing unpaid fees and financial support bursaries for students. The position requires the individual to uphold high standards of financial management, while fostering a collaborative atmosphere. Additional responsibilities include payroll preparation and management, along with aiding other bursarial staff in their financial duties. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Job Duties
  • Collaborate with external providers and the Bursar's office for effective financial management.
  • Liaise with external auditors and assist in the audit process and annual financial statement preparation.
  • Maintain documentation and control of revenue items associated with the sales ledger.
  • Support the preparation of multi-year financial strategies and annual budgets.
  • Manage the fee accounts for clients and oversee unpaid fees and debtors.
  • Prepare monthly reports providing updates on the sales ledger and related financial matters.
  • Assist in payroll data preparation and ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Provide financial management support to the College Catering Manager.
  • Engage in training and support for bursarial staff from third-party providers.
  • Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies and promote the welfare of children.
Job Requirements
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in finance or accounting.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as Xero, Dext, and Access Pay.
  • Understanding of the importance of safeguarding children and young people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • A commitment to training and professional development.
