About the Role:
Our teams of pension administrators provide services to a wide range of trust‑based company pension schemes, including defined benefit, defined contribution, career average revalued earnings, and hybrid schemes. We adopt a scheme‑based administrative approach, dedicating each team to a single client’s service to deliver focused relationships and clarity. Outstanding customer service and technical proficiency are equally emphasized.
Key Responsibilities- Adhere to best practice procedures for all pension administration tasks as defined by the Company.
- Participate in annual projects such as renewals, benefit statements, life assurance, PHI, and pension increases, handling data processing and ensuring projects meet customer and legislation requirements.
- Ensure documentation is scheme‑specific and incorporate it into existing procedures.
- Monitor procedural developments and implement changes as required.
- Perform first‑level checking of work completed by junior staff and final checking of non‑financial work (e.g., change of address).
- Informally train and mentor more junior team members.
- Receive and handle internal and external telephone queries and, where applicable, act as first point of contact for clients.
- Run automated system calculations and perform manual benefit calculations.
- Develop intermediate knowledge of clients and associated schemes.
- Take responsibility for ad‑hoc projects and exercises.
- Assist the team with project‑related work such as bulk mailshots to scheme members.
- Update relevant pension administration databases and systems.
- Deal with complex pension queries, including DWP and HMRC enquiries.
- Assist in non‑client‑related work such as technical committees, training and events.
- Collaborate with other departments/teams internally and externally to provide a complete service to clients (e.g., pensions accounts, payroll, administration support, ITM).
- Accurately update the time‑recording system (Virtual Office) for chargeable and non‑chargeable activities and meet utilisation targets.
- Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of pension administration activities and apply it across schemes.
- Have previous pensions administration experience with Defined Benefit schemes, including leavers, retirements, deaths, transfers, monthly processing, investment, benefit statements, renewals, and pension increases. A minimum of two years’ experience is preferred.
- Possess current understanding of pensions legislation and framework, especially the regulatory requirements of the various Pensions and Finance Acts.
- Experience in checking and mentoring junior staff is desirable.
- Prior third‑party pensions administration experience preferred; strong in‑house experience also considered.
- Show numerical aptitude through work experience or academic achievements.
- Minimum of A Level or equivalent; ideally three C grades or above.
- Strong Maths and English GCSE or equivalent (minimum grade
B). - Willingness to study for or studying a relevant pension qualification (e.g., CPC, QPA, DPC, RPC, APMI).
- Experience in informal mentoring and management of junior staff.
