Financial Accounting Lead

37 hours per week, Monday - Friday - Salary: £28.57 - £33.78 per hour
My client is seeking a Financial Accounting Lead to provide an effective service to both internal and external users of financial information, ensuring robust financial control and compliance. This role involves leading the finance strategy and managing all financial accounting activities including statutory accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury Management, and income forecasting.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Ensure effective financial processes and controls are in place, complying with audit requirements, policies, accounting standards, and best practices.
- Utilise finance systems efficiently to add value to stakeholders and improve service delivery.
- Lead the production of annual reports and statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with internal and external stakeholder requirements, including statutory audits and reporting to the Department of Health and Social Care.
- Manage financial policies and controls, regularly reviewing and updating them as necessary.
- Oversee the accounting of different funding streams, ensuring adherence to Managing Public Money guidelines.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to manage and implement corrective action plans.
- Conduct team briefings, one-on-one meetings, and manage staff performance and development, including training and performance management.
- Collaborate with peers and managers to continuously review and develop the finance department’s activities and services.
Required Skills &
Qualifications:
- Qualified Accountant - public sector background
- Significant experience managing comprehensive finance functions.
- Strong knowledge and experience with financial accounting systems.
- Proficient in IT, particularly Excel and accountancy software.
- Proven track record of meeting KPIs.
- Strategic thinking capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
