Location: The Lumen, St James' Boulevard, Newcastle upon Tyne, various ‘spoke’ offices throughout the North East and remote working arrangements.
Salary: N9 £ 46,142 - £49,282 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Reporting to: Programme Manager (Environment, Coast & Rural)

Policy and Economy Adviser (Environment and Nature)
At the North East Combined Authority, you will play a central role in shaping innovative, evidence‑led policy that supports the region’s environmental ambitions. You will lead the development and delivery of key policy and research initiatives, working collaboratively with colleagues across the combined and local authorities to ensure strategies remain current, robust, and impactful. Your work will directly contribute to the Authority’s vision for a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous North East.
In this role, you will provide high‑quality insight and advice to the Mayor, Members, senior officers, and partners, drawing on local, regional, national, and international developments. You will interpret and communicate complex qualitative and quantitative data to a wide range of audiences, ensuring findings are accurate, secure, and accessible. By offering clarity on emerging issues, relevant legislation, and strategic opportunities, you will help shape informed decision‑making across the organisation and its networks.
You will also build and maintain strong, productive relationships with local authorities, partners, stakeholders, and communities, championing collaboration at every level. Leading significant projects and coordinating effective project management arrangements, you will ensure work is delivered to agreed timelines and performance standards. Through your commitment to partnership working, continuous learning, and equality and diversity, you will help drive forward meaningful change and support the delivery of priority outcomes for the region.
