Enforcement and Compliance Officer

We’re looking for a motivated and skilled individual to support the delivery of high-quality enforcement and compliance activity across the Revenues and Benefits Service.

• Carrying out billing, collection, recovery and enforcement activity for council tax and business rates
• Applying legislation, including the Taking Control of Goods Act 2013, to ensure safe and compliant enforcement
• Managing a varied caseload, planning and prioritising work to meet tight deadlines
• Negotiating payment arrangements using persuasive and influential communication skills
• Building and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders
• Providing clear, professional verbal and written communication to a diverse range of people
• Ensuring all activity aligns with the Council’s Equalities and Health & Safety policies

• You must have a comprehensive understanding of the law and practices relating to local taxation recovery and enforcement
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment
• Hold a valid Enforcement Agent Certificate or be willing to work towards obtaining one within an agreed timeframe
• Full UK driving licence and the ability to travel independently across the city
• Additional recruitment checks will be undertaken, including a check for unspent criminal convictions
