Enforcement and Compliance Officer

We’re looking for a motivated and skilled individual to support the delivery of high-quality enforcement and compliance activity across the Revenues and Benefits Service.

You’ll play a key role in maximising income for the Council by undertaking fair, proportionate and professional enforcement action. Working closely with colleagues, customers and external partners, you’ll ensure cases are handled efficiently, lawfully and in line with best practice.

• Carrying out billing, collection, recovery and enforcement activity for council tax and business rates
• Applying legislation, including the Taking Control of Goods Act 2013, to ensure safe and compliant enforcement
• Managing a varied caseload, planning and prioritising work to meet tight deadlines
• Negotiating payment arrangements using persuasive and influential communication skills
• Building and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders
• Providing clear, professional verbal and written communication to a diverse range of people
• Ensuring all activity aligns with the Council’s Equalities and Health & Safety policies
• You’ll have a comprehensive understanding of the law and practices relating to local taxation recovery and enforcement, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

You must hold a valid Enforcement Agent Certificate or be willing to work towards obtaining one within an agreed timeframe. A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel independently across the city is also required.
