Responsibilities
- Coordinate and participate in activities with residents and assist with resident's outings when required.
- Plan, organise and coordinate a wide range of activities and events that meet the identified needs and interests of residents.
- Ensure activities meet the needs of residents with early stage dementia and those who are mentally coherent.
- Include enjoyable, purposeful, age‑appropriate and culturally appropriate activities that consider residents' spiritual needs.
- Promote healthy living, flexibility and responsiveness to changing needs and facilitate social inclusion in community events.
- Accompany residents on organised outings.
- Enable residents to participate through the provision of equipment, aids and support.
- Take into account the duration of each activity and daily timetable based on residents' needs and abilities.
- Encourage staff members, relatives and friends to participate in planned activities.
- Continuously assess individual needs, providing one‑to‑one activities especially for rehabilitation and dementia care.
- Assist the Service Manager in planning the home’s special events around Christmas, Easter and Harvest.
- Record keeping and communication:
- Maintain individual activity plans for residents.
- Display the activity programme in a suitable format and location so residents and their representatives know what is scheduled.
- Review the programme at least twice yearly to ensure it meets residents' changing needs.
- Update and process computerised records as required.
- Maintain a record of all activities, including the name of the person leading the activity and the names of the residents who participate.
- Monitor, record and evaluate the success of each activity.
- Report any changes in residents' physical or emotional condition to the Service Manager or Senior in charge.
- Participate in residents' meetings as required.

- Liaise closely with Senior Staff regarding the suitability of activities for individual residents.
- Liaise with "Friends Of" to ensure a coordinated approach to events and activities.
- Provide activity reports to participate in residents' annual care reviews.

- Be aware of the Health & Safety Policy in relation to activities and ensure any equipment used complies with safety standards.
- Promote safe working practice and closely follow the home’s Code of Behaviour.
- In conjunction with the Service Manager, complete risks assessments on outings as necessary.
- Comply with all CSW policies and procedures as required.
- Health and safety:
- Awareness of health and safety practices within a working environment
- Experience of delivering activity programmes
- Willingness to work flexibly as and when required
- Evidence and understanding of and respect for the needs of vulnerable adults and older people
- Experience of working with people with a learning disability and older people
- Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
- Appropriate IT skills to be able to use Microsoft Word and the Internet
