Position: 1:1 Healthcare Assistant (Male - Consistent Staffing Requirement)
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Location: Care Home Setting

Support Type: 1:1 Behavioural Support

Hours: As required by the care home

Start Date: Immediate / subject to availability

PAY RATE : £15.24 - £17.61 an hour

Role Purpose

To provide safe, consistent, and person‑centred 1:1 support to a resident who presents challenging behaviours
, including verbal aggression and discriminatory remarks. The HCA will work closely with the care home team to maintain safety, reduce distress, and promote positive engagement.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide continuous 1:1 supervision to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the resident and surrounding staff/residents.
  • Use de‑escalation techniques
    , calm communication, and professional boundaries to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Maintain a non‑reactive, professional approach when faced with discriminatory or racist remarks.
  • Support the resident with daily living tasks
    , personal care (if required), mobility, and engagement in meaningful activities.
  • Monitor and record behavioural patterns, triggers, and incidents in line with care home policies.
  • Work collaboratively with senior staff, nurses, and management to follow behavioural support plans.
  • Ensure all care is delivered in accordance with safeguarding
    , dignity
    , respect
    , and professional conduct standards.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the care home team and report concerns promptly
  • Experience supporting individuals with challenging behaviours
    , mental health needs, or cognitive impairment.
  • Strong behaviour‑management and de‑escalation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and professional under pressure.
  • Experience working in care homes or similar environments.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and incident reporting.
  • Reliable, consistent, and able to build therapeutic rapport with the resident.
