At Nova Care Group, we know that supporting a young person through crisis and complexity takes more than experience on paper.

It takes patience, resilience, the ability to stay calm when things are difficult, build trust when trust doesn't come easily and look beyond behaviour to understand what might be driving it.

We know this because our organisation was founded on lived experience. We've seen first hand how much difference the right people, at the right time, can make in a young person's life.

Now we're looking for people who want to make that difference too.

The role

We want to be honest with you, this isn't always an easy job but it will always make a difference.

The young people we support have experienced significant challenges in their lives and often communicate their experiences through behaviours such as aggression, absconding, sexualised behaviours, self-harm, criminalisation or withdrawing from others.

Your role is to stay calm, consistent and compassionate. To set clear boundaries, build trust and look beyond the behaviour to understand what a young person may be experiencing.

There will be challenging times, difficult conversations and times when progress feels slow. Then there are the moments that make it all worthwhile.

Seeing a young person begin to trust you, watching them manage something they couldn't before, seeing their confidence grow, their behaviour stabilise or taking another step towards independence.

Requirements for our Support Workers:

If you've worked in a demanding environment such as care, education, prison service, police, emergency services, armed forces, security, hospitality, retail or another role where you've had to remain calm under pressure, you'll already have many of the skills we're looking for. You’ll be:

  • Fully flexible and able to work and travel across the North East
  • Able to work 12 hours shifts, covering days, waking nights and sleep in shifts.
  • In possession of a Full UK Driving licence and right to work in the UK (we are not able to offer sponsorship)
What you'll receive:
  • £30,000–£32,000 basic salary
  • Shift enhancements with earning potential of £42,775+
  • A 4 on 4 off shift pattern, giving you regular blocks of time away from work
  • Enhanced annual leave, increasing with length of service
  • Private healthcare cover
  • Team bonus opportunities
  • Fully funded Level 3 and Level 4 NVQ qualifications
  • Clear career and progression pathways
  • Paid sick leave
  • Company pension scheme
  • Refer a friend scheme
  • Blue Light discounts

Experience working with young people is helpful, but it's not essential. We'll provide the training and support you need to develop in the role.

Nova Care Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the young people we support. This role is subject to safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS, employment history and reference checks.
