Experienced Female Personal Assistant – ANJNCL

Hours: 10 hours per week including weekends

Area: Newcastle Upon Tyne (NE4)

Rate: £15.00 per hour

We are currently recruiting for an experienced personal assistant with background in supporting individuals with mental and physical health issues. Andrea has bipolar disorder, mobility issues, and autonomic dysfunction that cause daily symptoms, and – rarely – non-epileptic seizures. A background in mental health is essential.

This role will involve supporting a kind and funny person within her home setting. Andrea lives with her two indoor cats, who are very important to her. Andrea is currently receiving support with medical & psychological intervention for her diagnoses which present various challenges for her. Andrea uses mobility aids – including a wheelchair when out of her home – due to mobility issues caused by joint hypermobility syndrome and autonomic dysfunction which cause pain, dizziness, heart palpitations and other symptoms.

You will be required to accompany Andrea to her scheduled appointments and shopping trips and stay with her during the appointments/shopping to ensure her wellbeing and offer encouragement and support with mobility issues.

Andrea suffers from occasional non-epileptic seizures which can result in unconsciousness. She manages these without medication, but you would need to learn the indicators of a seizure and keep Andrea safe if she has one when you present. You will support with prescription management and support Andrea to manage her daily dosage of medication.

Andrea is keen to get back into weekly routines and have better organisation within the home, which you would need to support. The role would also include supporting Andrea to create a weekly meal plan for herself, batch cooking, and shopping trips, both hands on and in a supervisory capacity if Andrea chooses to engage in the cooking. Andrea has some long‑term goals in place which include getting back to taking up hobbies she used to enjoy, including reading, creative writing and other creative activities.

She has a flair for painting and makes her home cosy and interesting with awesome retro memorabilia that she has collected.

Andrea would like to work towards getting back into her volunteering roles so you would be required to support Andrea in achieving her goals. Andrea likes theatricals and comedy and has taken part in, and supported others to engage in drama workshops. (She’s even met some famous people along the way!)

This role will include some light domestic duties including laundry, hoovering and cleaning, and you would be expected to be encourage and support Andrea to engage in day to day living skills. There will be support and prompting required with personal care, typically showering and hair management, and assistance with dressing and choosing appropriate clothes for the weather.

This is a role for someone looking for a permanent role where a relationship can be formed and goals can be achieved together.

A car driver is preferred but not essential for this role.
