Castle Peak Group has been retained to identify an exceptional finance leader for a Board-level appointment within a large, complex organisation delivering services that impact hundreds of thousands of people across the North East.

This is an opportunity to join an ambitious Board at a pivotal moment in its strategic journey.

Working alongside an experienced Chair, Chief Executive and Executive Directors, you will provide independent oversight, strategic challenge and financial expertise, helping to guide major investment decisions, strengthen governance and support long-term organisational sustainability.

This is far more than a governance appointment.

It is an opportunity to influence the future direction of an organisation with a significant regional footprint, ambitious transformation plans and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for the communities it serves.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an accomplished financial leader who combines commercial acumen with strategic thinking and a collaborative leadership style.

As a Board member, you will contribute to discussions covering:

  • Financial sustainability and long-term planning
  • Corporate governance and assurance
  • Risk oversight and organisational resilience
  • Strategic investment and capital programmes
  • Transformation and organisational improvement
  • Performance, productivity and value for money
  • Partnership working across complex stakeholder environments
  • Digital innovation and future service delivery

You will bring independent judgement, ask insightful questions, support constructive debate and help ensure robust decision-making at the highest level.

Who we're looking for

We would welcome applications from experienced Board members as well as exceptional executive leaders seeking their first Non-Executive Director appointment.

You are likely to be:

  • Finance Director
  • Executive Director of Finance
  • Group Finance Director
  • Senior Partner
  • Audit Committee Chair or Member
  • Or another senior finance executive operating within a large and complex organisation.

You will possess:

A recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)

Significant senior financial leadership experience

Strong strategic and commercial judgement

Excellent understanding of governance, assurance and risk

The confidence to challenge constructively and influence Board-level discussions

Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills

A collaborative, values-led leadership style

Experience with in the public sector would be welcomed but is not essential
.

We are equally interested in hearing from candidates from regulated commercial sectors including financial services, infrastructure, utilities, professional services, housing, higher education and other complex organisations where governance and strategic oversight are critical.

Experience leading significant transformation or improvement programmes would be advantageous.
