The National Specialist Adolescent Mood Disorders Service (NSAMS) is looking to recruit a dynamic Mental Health nurse practitioner at band 6. The post holder requires clinical experience working with young people under the age of 18, with desirable experience of mood disorders and co‑occurring conditions. The role involves contributions to a highly specialist national tertiary clinical service as part of a multidisciplinary team for NSAMS second opinion assessments and advice on management, and carrying a case load with specific case‑management duties.

The successful applicant will receive excellent ongoing support and training to develop skills for the specialist second opinion service.

The service accepts referrals from across the UK, so the ability to travel for appointments is essential, including some overnight stays. A car driver is essential.

• Physical health monitoring of patients
• Contribution in professional consultation meetings for local clinicians
• Assist with delivery of bipolar/mood disorders training
• Support engagement with young people and their carers
• Offer advice on medication to young people and their families

• Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
• Evidence of post‑registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions/skills relevant to the post
• Proven track record of post‑registration clinical experience relevant to the post
• Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi‑Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection
• Up‑to‑date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation

• 12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience, dependent upon service need
• Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives

• Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs
• Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills
• Demonstrated understanding of effective and appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence‑based clinical approaches as identified in NICE Guidance
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• High level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others) and ability to adapt within a changing environment
• Ability to work under pressure
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to use electronic recording and relevant IT equipment
• Ability to work effectively with other professionals using a multi‑agency approach

£39,959 to £48,117 a year pro rata per annum
