We are looking for a motivated and compassionate practitioner to join our specialist team. This role supports acutely unwell children outside of PICU, providing expert assessment, early intervention, and clinical support across the organisation. The practitioner will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, helping to deliver high-quality, safe, and responsive care while advancing clinical knowledge within paediatric critical care.

• Full or part-time positions are available.
• Hybrid working between this post and an existing role would be considered.
• Shift-based rota across a 24/7 service, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Flexible working options can be considered in line with service needs.

The Band 6 Children's Critical Care Outreach Practitioner will be responsible for the assessment, monitoring, and support of acutely unwell children across Great North Children's Hospital, ensuring early recognition of clinical deterioration and timely intervention. The post holder will provide expert clinical support to staff, patients, and families, contribute to effective care planning, clinical pathway development and service delivery, promote patient safety, quality improvement and the consistent application of best practice standards.

The role also involves supporting the education and training of staff, acting as a professional role model and contributing to ongoing service development initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Providing clinical assessment and decision-making for acutely ill children outside of PICU.
• Supporting and guiding staff in advanced critical care practices.
• Facilitating planning, delivery, and evaluation of care pathways for designated patient groups.
• Contributing to education and training programmes for staff.
• Acting as a professional role model and promoting continuous professional development.

• Registered nurse (appropriate to branch) or Allied Health Professional.
• Current NMC/HCPC registration.
• Professional knowledge acquired through a degree.

• Post-registration experience within related specialist area of practice.
• Extended clinical practice underpinned by training supervision & assessment.
• Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
• Knowledge of relevant NHS policy or project-specific policy context.
• Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding.
• Research or audit experience.
• Evidence of contribution to education and training programmes.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Effective report writing skills.
• Effective organisation and time management skills.
• Change management skills and involvement in project work.
