Newcastle University is offering a funded PhD studentship in the area of Physical Activity, Health and Wellbeing. This opportunity is based within a vibrant and interdisciplinary research environment focused on advancing knowledge and impact in public health, physical activity, and behavioural science. The project will contribute to understanding how physical activity can improve health outcomes and wellbeing across populations, with a strong emphasis on applied research and real-world impact.
The successful candidate will undertake an independent research project under expert academic supervision, contributing to ongoing research within the institution. The role includes designing and conducting research studies, collecting and analysing quantitative and/or qualitative data, and disseminating findings through academic publications and presentations. The candidate will also engage in training and development activities and contribute to the wider academic community.

Eligibility Criteria- Hold or expect to achieve a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject such as public health, sport and exercise science, psychology, or a related discipline.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field is desirable.
- Candidates must meet the University’s English language requirements where applicable.
- Strong interest in physical activity, health, and wellbeing research.
- Experience in research methods, including data collection and analysis, is desirable.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a research team.
- Familiarity with quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies is advantageous.
The studentship includes full tuition fees and an annual tax‑free stipend in line with UKRI rates.
