Research Fellow in Implementation Science

Join us for a sixteen‑month post to lead qualitative fieldwork exploring the implementation of a new approach to identifying and offering early help to young children likely to have difficulties with language and communication across England.

This role is part of the ESCALATER study, a NIHR PRP funded project. You will work as part of a friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team, including academics from Oxford, Newcastle, and Northumbria Universities, and national project partners. Your main responsibilities will include designing and conducting qualitative research activities such as interviews, focus groups and observations with frontline and managerial staff, parents, carers and children across six sites.

You will analyse the data, write up findings for publication, and collaborate with project partners to support the delivery of the study.

The role is fixed‑term for 16 months, starting 1 August 2026 and ending 30 November 2027, with a possibility of a short extension if funding allows. Travel to various locations across the UK is required for fieldwork.

To be successful you will have:

• Excellent practical, analytic and conceptual skills in multi‑method qualitative research.
• Knowledge of contemporary debates in implementation science and, preferably, challenges related to speech, language and communication needs.
• Ability to travel across the UK for data collection.
• A PhD, or the submission of a PhD within the next two months, or equivalent experience in a health or social science discipline.

You will be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
