The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Archaeology & Heritage Consultant in our bustling Newcastle office, where you will be part of a market-leading Environmental Services discipline.

About

The Role

As a graduate consultant, you will contribute to a wide range of archaeological and heritage projects, from small-scale regional developments to nationally significant infrastructure schemes. You will work closely with experienced heritage specialists, gaining hands-on experience across research, site assessment, regulatory liaison, and project management.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough desk-based assessments, historical research, and archival reviews to evaluate archaeological potential and heritage significance.
  • Processing, analysing, and interpreting spatial, environmental, and historical data sets using GIS mapping and heritage databases.
  • Assisting senior consultants in developing practical archaeological and heritage mitigation strategies and management plans.
  • Contributing to the production of high-quality technical reports, environmental impact assessment (EIA) heritage chapters, and written schemes of investigation (WSI).
  • Liaising with clients, project teams, local planning authorities, and statutory consultees (e.g., Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland).

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. We actively support employees to gain professional chartership status with relevant bodies, such as the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA).

Your Impact

In this role, you will play a vital role in balancing historic environment conservation with modern infrastructure and community development. Supporting projects across the UK - such as major water sector initiatives like the Grassholme Reservoir Embankment Works - your research and mitigation strategies will ensure that cultural heritage assets are understood, protected, and integrated into sustainable engineering design.
