Your main responsibilities
We are currently recruiting for a Service Technician to join our Team based out of our Warrington office covering Newcastle City Centre and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned preventive maintenance regimes as determined by the contract terms on portfolio lift/escalator equipment and for completing Schindler safety inspections and closing any open non‑conformity to current legislation or standards.
They will also oversee improvement of equipment condition to improve the time between technical call‑backs and reduce lift equipment downtime. Works will also include minor repair work and lifecycle replacement of components. The successful candidate must adhere to all company safety and conduct procedures and provide coverage by an on‑call rota for out of hours calls, maintenance and repairs.
- Carrying out routine servicing of lift/escalator equipment including minor repair work and routine replacement of components in accordance with approved company procedures (PPE, PDA, Expert etc).
- Rectifying and reducing faults on lift/escalator equipment in cases of breakdown and checking to confirm correct functioning.
- Checking the lift/escalator function as part of maintenance checks to include speed, motor start/stop, weight, noise, temperature and power supplies using approved company‑issued tooling and protective equipment.
- Carrying out the routine inspection and adjustment of lift/escalator in accordance with approved procedures.
- Reinstating lift/escalator and completing service documentation.
- Carrying out more advanced fault‑finding and diagnostic procedures using a range of techniques, technical manuals and appropriate test equipment, restoring equipment to service. Competence is required to make effective use of written or graphical information.
- Carrying out site surveys and attending all relevant training sessions to keep up to date on technical knowledge and skills.
- Working in accordance with the Company’s Safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current UK legal requirements and Schindler Group safety requirements, as well as setting a personal example of safe behaviour.
- Contributing to the Company safety objectives where necessary by maintaining/monitoring current safety systems under your direct control and implementing agreed changes (where applicable) to its safety management system.
- Experience in lift/escalator servicing/maintenance/repairs preferred.
- Qualified to NVQ level 3 minimum in lift/escalator maintenance or equivalent.
- Willingness to work towards Schindler Certification Level 3 Red.
- Advanced electrical and mechanical knowledge including multi‑brand equipment.
- Advanced problem‑solving skills.
- The ability to work under pressure to deadlines and within efficiencies.
- The ability to work independently with a flexible approach.
- Good communication skills at different levels (client, service leader, inspectors).
- Manual dexterity – requires the use of hands, arms and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate various hand and power tools and to record written information.
