Overview
We are a trauma-led, client-centred service focused on understanding the person we support, their individual needs, and offering safety, compassion and non-judgement. This is a 24-hour service; the night-shift position involves engaging in support with women and children and assisting with activities for those in refuge.
About the Service
Changing Lives is a nationwide charity helping people facing challenging circumstances to make positive change — for good. We believe everyone deserves a safe home, a rewarding job and a life free from addiction or abuse. Our services across the country help thousands of people each year who experience a wide range of challenges, including homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, unemployment, involvement with the criminal justice system, sexual exploitation and domestic abuse.
We focus on strengths, potential and opportunities to help people overcome their problems and live safe, successful, independent lives. Our charity is powered by over 600 colleagues who bring a diverse and inclusive environment for growth. Many have lived experience of the challenges faced by those we support. We seek committed and compassionate professionals to join our team who share our enthusiasm for changing lives.
About the Service – Women and Children’s Services
We run services and dedicated women’s centres for those at risk or facing challenging circumstances, including women in the criminal justice system and those with experience of trauma, selling sex or sexual exploitation. We recognise that women and girls have experiences and vulnerabilities that are specific to their gender. Childhood abuse and domestic abuse are common features in the lives of the women we support, impacting health and wellbeing.
All services are underpinned by an in-depth understanding of trauma and a focus on recovery, resilience and community integration.
- Provide safe, supportive and empowering care to women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
- Engage in night-shift support work and participate in activities for residents in refuge.
- Collaborate with team members in a purpose-built 14-flat women and children’s refuge.
- Promote a trauma-informed approach, encouraging recovery, resilience and community integration.
- Commitment to compassionate, professional support for individuals experiencing challenging circumstances.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, 24-hour service context.
- Willingness to work night shifts and engage with women and children and associated activities.
Note:
The following quotation illustrates the impact of the role: “From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth, kindness, and a genuine sense of care. The staff members at the refuge made us feel supported during one of the most challenging times in our lives. Because of this incredible support, we have been able to grow, learn, and move forward in ways we never thought possible”.
