Artificial Intelligence Engineer

• Senior AI & Automation Engineer at an international software business behind the systems trade businesses run on
• Up to £70,000 base
• Full time, permanent, hybrid with 3 days a week in the Newcastle office
• Technical lead in the AI and automation team supporting Cloud Operations across Azure and Oracle Cloud
• Build AI agents that do real operational work, not demos
• Sit alongside part of the cloud team already based in Newcastle
• Paid on call rota

Our client builds the software that wholesale, automotive, retail, rental and field service businesses run on. Think the system a garage uses to run its workshop and parts, or a rental firm uses to run its fleet. Tens of thousands of customers across 70 plus countries, decades of trading, profitable and privately backed.

Their AI and automation team is a shared service for Cloud Operations. It builds the automation, Infrastructure as Code and AI agents that keep their online products running.

You would set the technical direction for how they automate provisioning, cut manual toil and improve recovery times.

The business is moving to AI first, automation first ways of working across its products and teams. This role leads that shift inside Cloud Operations.

That means owning the patterns other engineers follow, mentoring the team, and building AI tooling that operations staff actually rely on day to day.

• Lead the design and delivery of automation, Infrastructure as Code and AI powered tooling across Azure and Oracle Cloud
• Build reusable automation frameworks, standards and engineering patterns
• Design and build AI agents and LLM assisted tooling for Cloud Operations
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines
• Embed security, identity and secrets management into everything by default
• Improve resilience, disaster recovery and recovery times through automation
• Apply Fin Ops thinking to reduce cloud cost and waste
• Mentor engineers and lead code reviews, knowledge sharing and training

• Senior level experience in Dev Ops, Cloud, Platform or Automation Engineering
• Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform, though Bicep, Pulumi, Ansible or ARM all count
• Designing and delivering CI/CD and automation solutions
• Hands on experience building AI or LLM assisted tooling or agents
• Security, identity (Microsoft Entra / IAM) and secrets management
• An understanding of resilience and DR (RTO/RPO, failover)
• Mentoring engineers or leading technical work
• Able to work in the Newcastle office 3 days a week

• Fin Ops and cloud cost optimisation
• ISO 27001, SOC 2 or GDPR controls
• Contributing to engineering standards or reusable patterns
