Health And Safety Clerical Seasonal Worker – Newington, CT

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). accepting applications for Health And Safety Clerical Seasonal Workers in Newington, CT. This position is Full Time, Seasonal (40 hours/week, 8 hours/day) with an anticipated start date of May 2026 and an end date of August 31, 2026. Work is Monday‑Friday, First Shift, on‑site in the Newington office.

The Role

The Health And Safety Clerical Seasonal Worker provides comprehensive clerical and administrative support to the Safety Division, ensuring the accurate processing, organization, and maintenance of safety‑related records, documentation, and communications. The role supports the implementation of safety programs, regulatory compliance, coordination, and internal reporting functions critical to the agency’s safety mission.

Responsibilities
  • Safety Administrative Support – Supports safety programs, initiatives, and compliance activities; maintains incident reports, training records, logs, and safety documentation; assists with preparation and distribution of safety communications and bulletins.
  • Typing & Document Preparation – Formats and types correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and safety materials; proofreads and edits documents for accuracy and consistency; prepares draft correspondence for supervisory review.
  • Filing & Records Management – Designs and maintains organized filing systems (including confidential records); scans, indexes, and retains records per agency retention requirements; maintains safety manuals, reference materials, and guidance documents.
  • Reporting & Data Support – Compiles safety data from standard sources; prepares reports such as incident tracking summaries, training participation logs, and monthly safety activity reports.
  • Interpersonal & Front‑Office Support – Answers phones, routes calls, and provides accurate information; greets visitors and coordinates communication with internal and external visitors.
  • Processing & Coordination – Reviews, routes, and prioritizes incoming safety correspondence; coordinates meetings, trainings, and safety events.
  • Office Management – Maintains inventory of safety office supplies and equipment; performs related duties in support of safety operations.
Qualifications
  • Any experience and training that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
  • Preferred:
    Experience providing administrative or clerical support within a health, safety, and compliance‑based environment.
  • Preferred:
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) including creation, maintenance, and tracking of reports, logs, and databases.
  • Preferred:
    Experience maintaining confidential records related to employee health, safety incidents, medical documentation, or claims.
  • Preferred:
    Experience organizing, filing, and retrieving safety documentation efficiently (training records, inspection reports, compliance materials).
  • Preferred:
    Experience prioritizing tasks, managing multiple deadlines, and supporting a fast‑paced safety office.
  • Preferred:
    Experience assisting with safety training coordination, scheduling, and preparation of presentation materials.
  • Preferred:
    Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a collaborative safety team.
Special Requirements
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents assigned to recreational activities must be able to perform emergency first aid and may require a current Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Incumbents assigned as bus drivers or operators of a motor vehicle must possess a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator License.
