The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). accepting applications for an Environmental Planning Seasonal Worker in the Bureau of Policy and Planning, Natural Resources Planning Unit within the Office of Environmental Planning (OEP).
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS- Full Time, Seasonal, 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day.
- Anticipated start date of May 1, 2026 and ending by September 30, 2026.
- Monday-Friday, First Shift.
- Positions based in Newington, CT.
We are seeking applicants with a botany, plant science, plant biology or biology background for the Natural Resources Planning Unit. The unit conducts resource coordination, completes consultations for Federal and State listed species and fisheries, performs wetland delineations, habitat assessments, as well as post‑construction wetland and species mitigation monitoring for CTDOT projects and programs.
The Seasonal position will gain experience in fulfilling the following duties:
- Assist with conducting vegetation surveys and preparing annual reports for conservation areas identified by CTDOT’s Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances for the Monarch Butterfly (CCAA) program.
- Assist with conducting vegetation/habitat surveys.
- Assist in performing wetland and ordinary high‑water delineations for CTDOT design projects.
- Assist in preparing GIS maps and supporting documentation for natural resource reviews and coordination documents associated with determining permitting needs for design projects.
- Assist in preparing listed species consultations and fisheries coordination documents for planning and design projects.
- Assist in developing and updating mapping wetland creation sites, fisheries enhancements, as well as conservation areas for the Monarch Butterfly (CCAA).
- Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Any experience and training that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
- Academic history that demonstrates an interest in water and natural resource identification and management.
- Academic or work history in botany, plant science, plant biology, ecology, natural resources, or biology.
- Grade point average of 3.0 or higher in botany, plant science, plant biology, ecology, natural resources, or biology.
- Relevant coursework such as plant identification, dendrology, field botany, field ecology, entomology.
- Interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS or related computer software through coursework or internships.
- Interest in and flexibility with working in both office and field environments, including uneven ground, inclement weather, construction equipment, vegetation, and areas adjacent to the traveling public.
